After photographing the Sapp family to update family photos in the foothills less than a year ago, and again for their maternity session at Hartnett Park, I was thrilled to be invited into the home of Marvin & Alivia to photograph a custom newborn session for their baby girl Salem.

Salem was only 6 days old when I was graciously welcomed by Alivia's mother and several other family members visiting from West Virginia.  Paxton is very excited to be a big brother and absolutely adores his little sister.  It was beautiful to see this family pour their love over baby Salem and into each other.

Alivia did an amazing job decorating Salem's nursery!  It's such a beautiful and serene place to welcome Salem into the world.  She even ordered the most beautiful newborn romper with matching tieback!

Salem's Birth Story

Alivia described her labor experience as being "very different" than she expected… She went to the hospital with contractions, but was sent home and told by her midwife to wait until the contractions lasted 60 seconds and were 5 minutes apart.

Later that evening, on June 8th which was their anticipated due date, her contractions lasted 60 seconds but were 7 minutes apart - so Alivia waited at home for them to be 5 minutes apart.  She kept trying to wait, but it was becoming very difficult to manage at home.  Just as she was about to ask her husband Marvin to take her back to the hospital, her water broke!  She stated "At that point, it was ON!"  Her mom quickly helped her get her pants on and get into the car so they could head to the hospital.

"I though I was going to be delivering on the way to Pres! I was that woman you see in movies who is screaming through the hospital while her husband is moving as fast as he can pushing the wheelchair.  Once making it to triage I was checked in and told I was at 8cm!", Alivia shared.  She went on to share that "Ideally I hoped to get an epidural at 4cm, miraculously I was able to still get the epidural at 8cm.  It took the edge off but whew, I still felt a lot."

Salem was born at 4:16am on Thursday, June 9th at Presbyterian hospital- just one day after her expected due date.  She was 7lbs 7oz and 19" - absolute perfection and another true blessings from God.  Marvin & Alivia heard the name "Salem" years ago while watching the TV show Preachers Daughters - they fell in love with the name.
"Salem means peace, as does her brother's Paxton too" she added.

Salem already has her Daddy wrapped around her fingers.

Alivia is completely head over heels and madly in love with her darling daughter Salem.

It is always nice to incorporate family shots when photographing newborns.  Family bonds are incredibly beautiful and I'm honored to have been able to photograph this family again, and to document this precious milestone.
